Brown-Flower Coelogyne is a miniature sized,
tree-dwelling or occasional rock-dwelling on mossy rocks with an
linear-oblong, compressed, grooved pseudobulb enveloped by tapering
sheaths and carrying 2, apical, erect, leathery, pleated, 6 to 7
nerved, elliptic-lanceshaped, tapering leaf that gradually narrows
below into the elongate, stalked base. The plant blooms in the spring
on a slender, erect, hairless, 15-35 cm long, successively single, 6 to
18 flowered inflorescence. Flowers are light brownish, about 2.5 cm in
diameter. Sepals are broadly oblong, 10-13 x about 6 mm, hairless,
3-veined, tapering. Petals are 10-13 x about 1 mm, very slender,
hairless, 1-veined, blunt; lip 3-lobed; lateral lobes rounded with
broad crenulations; mid-lobe narrowly flat at base, entire, wavy,
recurved; callus with 5 prominent, short lamellae, outer ones broader.
Column is about 5 mm, hood narrowly winged with wings sawtoothed.
Brown-Flower Coelogyne is found in NE India, Myanmar and SE Yunnan, at
altitudes of 1300-1600 m.
